The only missing undubbed track is "Wishing". There's at least one circulating and it sounds so much better. If you're going to include an outfake, go the whole hog and create one without the backing vocals. The beginning of the outtake is missing on the tape, so somebody spliced on the beginning of the released take (overdubbed backing vocals and all - which disappear when the outtake cuts in). Included but shouldn't have been (in my opinion): There may be some other mix variants as well but the Hansen remixes are noteworthy because they significantly improve the sound quality. (You can find new remixes of these overdubs on this release.) The stereo remixes of the Jack Hansen overdubs that appeared on the vinyl box set. They included some of this, so why they didn't include everything is a mystery. Various studio chatter/intros/warm ups especially on the Decca Nashville sessions and the strings session. *Poor quality, but that didn't stop the inclusion of Send Me Some Lovin' or It's Too Late Have You Ever Been Lonely (fourth version). I'm Changin' All Those Changes (partial outake) Rock Around With Ollie Vee (partial outake) Wait Till The Sun Shines Nellie (overdub 1) - there are two overdubbed versions, the second one is included twice. The undubbed version was included twice and reused on Disc 6 in error. (The live tracks are on this release, the interviews on this, (most) session work on this.) Here is more or less what is missing from the Not Fade Away "Complete" box: Off the top of my head, and disregarding live tracks/interviews/session work, etc. If anyone knows of any that I can find anywhere else, it would help.Īny help would be appreciated and please feel free to correct me on the history anywhere if I'm wrong.Ĭlick to expand. Here's something I posted a few years ago: The most complete collection of these that I've seen on CD is on Not Fade Away: The Complete Studio Masters And More it does seem to be missing some. If someone could provide me with a list of all their recordings or where I can find it, it would be appreciated.įinally, that brings us to the tapes Buddy made in his New York City apartment. I thought I knew all the songs that these two collaborated on but I found one the other day that I had never heard. Then in 1958, after the Buddy Holly album, he made a number of recordings with Dick Jacobs string arrangements, such as "It Doesn't Matter Anymore". I've also come across what are presumably demos of songs that would appear on albums like The Chirping Crickets and Buddy Holly but don't know if these were anything more than just compilation rarities. I'm only interested in the undubbed versions, not the overdubbs by the Fireballs but I don't know how many of these tracks exist, what they are, and where to look for them since they seem to be scattered among compilation albums. When he started performing with the Crickets, I've found many tracks, both undubbed and overdubbed, of rock and roll standards like Rip it Up and Blue Suede Shoes. As far as I know, the songs on that album are the only songs and versions recorded from the Nashville sessions, but please correct me if I'm wrong. These I listen to off of the That'll Be The Day album that was released by Decca after the Crickets made it big. Starting in 1956, there are the Nashville sessions with Owen Bradley. Also, I notice that on my copy of Holly In The Hills, it makes a note that they are the undubbed versions, implying that there are overdubs done by the Fireballs of these tracks out there somewhere. If someone could provide me with a list of all their recordings or where I can find it, it would be appreciated. However I don't know if these albums are complete i.e. I've found some of these recordings on the 1965 album, Holly In The Hills, as well as on Not Fade Away: The Complete Studio Masters And More. I know that prior to 1956, he performed with Bob Montgomery as "Buddy and Bob". I'm trying to find music from all the different stages of Buddy's career and could use some help.
